What is the Route 234 and Sudley Manor Drive Interchange Project?
The Route 234 and Sudley Manor Drive Interchange Project is a major design-build effort to improve traffic flow and safety along Prince William Parkway. The project will reconstruct the intersection of Route 234 (Prince William Parkway) and Sudley Manor Drive and modify the nearby intersection at Wellington Road.
The interchange will be built as a single-point urban interchange (SPUI), enabling more efficient traffic flow through a single central signalized intersection. Prince William Parkway and Sudley Manor Drive will be grade-separated to maintain free-flow traffic along the parkway.
Currently, closely spaced signalized intersections at Sudley Manor Drive and Wellington Road, less than 1,400 feet apart, create significant congestion and delays. As part of the project, Wellington Road will be bridged over Prince William Parkway, and direct access from Wellington Road to the parkway will be shifted to the new interchange to improve operations and reduce conflicts.
Project Budget: $115.5 million
Main Goals of the Sudley Manor Drive Interchange Project
Improve traffic flow and safety along Prince William Parkway
Eliminate congestion caused by closely spaced signalized intersections
Create a more efficient interchange at Sudley Manor Drive
Bridge Wellington Road over Prince William Parkway and streamline access
Success Criteria for the Sudley Manor Drive Interchange Project
Increased capacity along the Route 234 corridor
Reduced congestion along the Route 234 corridor
