What is the Tourism Master Plan Study?

A tourism master plan is the roadmap for destination success. It is a crucial first step that will address three important questions: “Where are we?” “Where do we want to go?” “How do we get there?” To help us address these questions, Prince William County is launching a Tourism Master Plan Study in partnership with Clarity of Place. Together, we aim to develop a comprehensive strategy that will grow Prince William County's tourism economy, enhance tourism experiences and ensure that tourism continues to thrive for years to come.

Purpose
The tourism industry in Prince William County created more than $779.9 million in visitor spending in 2024 and accounted for 5,713 tourism-supported jobs and $49.7 million in local taxes*. The Tourism Master Plan, once completed, will identify opportunities for short and long-term tourism growth in Prince William County by leveraging and guiding the direction of the destination in alignment with community needs and shared vision. It will be a roadmap on how to grow the tourism economy in Prince William County to ensure continued growth in jobs and local tax generation created by visitors.

The primary goal of this study is to create a tourism economic business development strategy that achieves an appreciable increase in tourism economic growth over the next decade, while engaging existing businesses and stakeholders.
